Areas of Support

Annual Fund
Our Annual Fund is the foundation of all giving programs at Whitefield.  It is the fund designated by Whitefield to bridge the gap between the total cost of educating a student and the amount paid in tuition.

Contributions to our Annual Fund provide a steady supply of unrestricted money that can be used for a variety of purposes including financial aid, scholarships, personnel costs, facility operations, equipment purchases and other needs to keep our school running smoothly and efficiently.  Unrestricted gifts give us the flexibility to respond in a timely manner to opportunities and unexpected challenges.

Whitefield’s success depends largely on private support from friends and parents since it does not receive direct federal or state funding. The number of individuals who support Whitefield is extremely important since it demonstrates the scope of support by the school’s constituents which can impact the level of support foundations are willing to provide when considering grant proposals.

How much should someone contribute?  This is, of course, a personal decision for each supporter. But we hope that all alumni and friends of the school will participate in the Annual Fund and establish a regular tradition of giving.  If everyone gives at a level consistent with their ability to do so and considers increasing their gifts each year - the Annual Fund will continue to mature and prosper!

Although you may feel your gift is small, every gift, regardless of size, is greatly appreciated.  Your gift, combined with others, becomes very significant to us.  Our students benefit through increased quality and number of programs and our community benefits because a significant portion of the Annual Fund is used to provide financial aid and scholarship assistance .  With your help during the 2006-2007 school year, Whitefield awarded more than $57,000 in tuition assistance.

Ad Dei Gloriam Annual Auction
Our annual auction plays a pivotal role in the financial health of our school.  As a supporter, you may act as an auction sponsor to underwrite the costs of the auction event or attend as a bidder.  The most important aspect of our auction is the involvement and participation of each attendee.  We offer silent auction items, live bid items and collective bids for some of the most urgent needs of Whitefield.  Our auction is one of most significant events of each school year!

Program Support
Whitefield offers many academic programs that may be of greater interest to you.  We always welcome gifts that are designated for our academic programs such as Fine Arts or Athletics.  We encourage these gifts to be made in increments sufficient to expand or significantly enhance the current program, typically beginning at $5,000.

Capital Acquisitions
Maintaining a school and staying current on technological changes requires constant investment within our annual planning process.  Donors may support our facility operation costs, maintenance and improvements or new equipment purchases.  As our needs are constantly changing, we encourage potential donors to contact the Business Administrator who can provide information regarding the most urgent projects and required funding levels.

Scholarships
As part of our long-term goals for Whitefield, we are encouraging donors to consider establishing a named scholarship fund for the benefit of current and future students.  Whitefield requires that each named scholarship be funded with an initial investment of $10,000.  Scholarships will be awarded based on a fixed percentage of the earnings of the fund each year.  We encourage donors to continue to add funds to their scholarship, so the principal continues to grow and provides larger awards in future years.  The terms of each scholarship program are determined by the donor and Whitefield.

Endowment
On a much broader scale, Whitefield desires to establish an endowment that will supplement the needs of the school on an annual basis.  The earnings from our endowment will allow Whitefield to expand and grow.  We are currently seeking five to ten seed gifts between $100,000 and $250,000 each to be given over the next five years.  Our plan is for these to serve as matching gifts to be made as other donors contribute $1 million to the endowment by June 30, 2012.
